life wonder : metamorphosis

I often wonder if metamorphosis is painful, and if it is conscious of the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly. I have recently taken up the hobby of mounting butterflies using donated butterflies from the Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden at Strong Museum of Play in Rochester Ny.
